Kerry meets Netanyahu as Palestinians push UN bid

US Secretary of State John Kerry (L) meets with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Villa Taverna in Rome on December 15, 2014.

US Secretary of State John Kerry met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Italian capital Rome on Monday.
The talks centered on Palestinian officials' push for a draft UN resolution to end the Israeli occupation. The Palestinians planned to put the proposal before the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
The draft resolution, approved by the Arab League in September, sets 2016 as the date for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territories.
The text is also expected to lay out a timeframe for negotiations on a final peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians.
Before departing for Rome, Netanyahu said Tel Aviv would rebuff any moves at the UN to set a timeframe for an Israeli troop withdrawal.
"Time after time, we have repulsed efforts to dictate conditions which have damaged the security of Israel and which do not comply with real peace," he said.
The United States has already opposed the timetable, saying it has complicated the stalled negotiations between Israelis and the Palestinians.
